LiquidView is an interior window display for use in windowless spaces, providing a realistic view that is synchronized to the time of day, and also includes personalized interactive elements to introduce a sense of unpredictability and realism.

Our focus while designing these interactions was to really make the best of the medium and the metaphor of an actual window - thinking about how soundscapes need to sound muffled under glass, using gestures that mimic familiar actions like opening curtains, or knocking on glass, thinking about how shadows could be cast in interesting ways, and how the view may shift relative to your position.

Patent: Virtual Window Apparatus and System

Over the course of a week, our team (1 interaction designer, 1 software designer, 3 industrial designers) came up with three hardware design concepts for the physical objects, corresponding to eight different interaction design concepts. We prototyped these digitally and physically, creating interactions that would make use of gesture-controlled soundscapes, depth cameras, personalized elements, light-casting and parallax views, and other novel ways of controlling aspects of the window.
